Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas released the following statement in response to the DACA issue, announcing that the Department of Homeland Security will issue a notice of a proposed set of rules that will help to preserve and fortify DACA is a policy that protects around 800,000 young people (they were formerly known as “Dreamers” and entered the United States unlawfully as children).
Alejandro Mayorkas cited: “We are taking action to preserve and fortify DACA. This is in keeping with the President’s memorandum. It is an important step, but only the passage of legislation can give full protection and a path to citizenship to the Dreamers who know the U.S. as their home.”
